Assistant Professor, Nematology (Search No. 5044).
- Location:
Washington State University
Full-time
(12-month) tenure-track appointment in the Department of Plant Pathology,
College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, Washington
State University, Pullman, Washington. The successful candidate will be
expected to initiate and conduct innovative and comprehensive research (75%)
and teaching (25%) programs emphasizing molecular and applied aspects of
plant-parasitic nematodes, plant-nematode interactions, and the diseases they
cause on crops of importance in Washington State. Teaching responsibilities
include a course in nematology and participation in other courses in the
department. Advise students working toward M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.
The successful applicant will be expected to conduct an approved
program of research consistent with the mission of the WSU Agricultural
Research Center. Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in plant
pathology or a related field at the time of hire, and evidence of scholarly
contributions. Desirable qualifications are demonstrated ability to conduct
research in plant parasitic nematodes, demonstrated ability in molecular
biology, evidence of research productivity, ability to develop an original
research program dealing with plant parasitic nematodes; ability to teach at
undergraduate and graduate levels, potential ability to obtain external
funding, evidence of oral, written, and electronic communication skills, and
ability to advise graduate students.
Salary
is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Screening of

Position: Mycologist,
Plant Health and Environment Laboratory, Investigation and Diagnostic Centre
Location: Auckland (Tamaki Campus), New Zealand
MAF
Biosecurity New Zealand, a division of the Ministry of Agriculture and
Forestry, is accountable for the management of New Zealand's biosecurity
system. These functions contribute to health, environment, economic, and
social/cultural outcomes.
The
purpose of MAF's Investigation and Diagnostic Centre is the detection,
diagnosis, control and eradication of exotic pests and diseases. These
services are provided by four groups (based in Auckland, Wellington, and
Christchurch) that focus on plant health, animal health, incursion
investigation, and laboratory support.
The
Plant Health and Environment Laboratory in Auckland has a vacancy for an
experienced Mycologist to
provide professional diagnostic and advisory services for fungi
in plants
collected
during surveillance and investigation activities, or intercepted at the
border/post entry quarantine. This position
requires proven technical, communication, and leadership skills.
The
successful applicant will possess a PhD or equivalent qualification
(post-graduate degree and relevant technical experience) in mycology. The
applicant will also have competent diagnostic skills using traditional and
molecular techniques, and proven project management skills. The applicant
needs to be a team player with leadership ability, initiative, and sound
judgement. Preference will be given to applicants with proven planning and
organisational skills, outcome focused, able to prioritise under pressure,
adapt to changing demands, and experience within a quality environment.
