Torino, December 2010

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

as the end of the year is approaching, I would like to update you on what has been achieved by ISPP in 2010.

Our journal, Food Security: The Science, Sociology and Economics of Food Production and Access to Food in partnership with Springer is doing very well. Special thanks go to the outstanding work of Richard Strange and Peter Scott in helping the Society realise this initiative.

Four books, derived from some of the invited lectures of ICPP 2008, have been published in 2010, in partnership with Springer.

During October, I visited, together with Secretary-general Greg Johnson, ISPP Vice-President You-Liang Peng in Beijing. We met with the Organizing Committee of ICPP 2013 and had opportunities to discuss progress in the organization of the next International Congress.

During the visit to Torino of Past-President Richard Falloon in June and of Vice-President Wafa Khoury in September, we had the chance to discuss some of the activities of our Society.

From an administrative point of view, the transfer of the ISPP bank account from Canada to the United States, where the ISPP Treasurer, Thomas Evans, is located, is finally completed.  We continue encouraging more member Societies to pay their due annual fees.  Chuji Hiruki, our Past Treasurer, is still helping us in these tasks.

Our Business Manager, Peter Williamson is continually improving the ISPP web-site, providing more opportunities for interactions with members. Credit card and PayPal can now be used for paying associated society and individual member subscriptions. ISPP Newsletters continue to be prepared thanks to the help of Brian Deverall.

Looking at 2011, in addition to forward planning for ICPP2013, a meeting of the Executive Committee will take place in April in Darwin (Australia), in the occasion of the ACPP APPS Congress.

Always in 2011, thematic meetings will be organized by some of our Subject Matter Committees.

While inviting you all to send comments and suggestions, together with ICPP Executive Committee, and the ISPP Secretariat, I wish you and your Families a Happy, Healthy and Fruitful New Year.

Warm Wishes

Lodovica Gullino.
