Objectives/Focus issues of the SMC	To organize presential, virtual and/or hands-on activities important for the subject matter committee including workshops, symposiums, conferences and others. To facilitate increase collaboration for sharing research, new technologies, ideas, new concepts and innovations among the instructors, speakers and participants of the events. To facilitate the collaboration among members of the committee with similar scientific interests in research and outreach activities on the oomycetes.
About the SMC	Committee members have organized numerous international events related to Oomycetes. Among them are: 1) Seven International Workshops on Oomycetes (IOW) organized since the year 2004 (see below). These workshops brought together about 60 speakers world experts to exchange knowledge and educate others on the latest in Oomycete research. More than 700 scientists from about 50 countries have participated in the IOW. 2) Mini symposiums: Strengthening the basis for a survey of Oomycetes in the Americas and Beyond (In 1st IOW and 2nd IOW). 3) International web symposiums including: Oomycetes of Regulatory Concern in International Trade in the 4th IOW (Maryland USA). Relevant Aspects in the Taxonomy and Evolution of the Oomycetes in joint meeting of the Latin American Workshop for Oomycetes organized by the Latin American Phytopathological Society, Mexican Phytopathological Society – Caribbean Division APS (Mexico July 19, 2015) (link). It is impressive that the web symposiums on Oomycetes attracted large audiences of plant pathologists from various countries across the globe. 4) APS symposiums including Evolution in the Taxonomy of the Straminipiles APS/MSA/CPS (Quebec, Canada 2006), Aspects of systematics of the Oomycetes APS (Nashville, USA 2010) and Status and Challenges in Identification and Diagnosis of Graminicolous Downy Mildews APS/MSA (Texas, USA 2013).
Coming events (next workshops/meetings)	The SMC Oomycetes is very close to the IUFRO Working Party 7.02.09: Phytophthora in Forests and Natural Ecosystems’ (link 1) (link 2). Many members of ISPP SMC are part of this IUFRO Working Party. Coming events are: 2026: 12th Meeting of the IUFRO Working Party 7.02.09: ‘Phytophthora in Forests and Natural Ecosystems’ South Africa, Cape region, 13 - 18 September 2026 (link). 2028: The 13th ICPP will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Queensland, Australia, 19 - 25th August (link).
