2nd Asian Conference on Plant Pathology 2005

Call for abstracts. 25-28 June 2005, Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore, http://www.2ndacpp.org

The principal aim of the conference is to create a forum for Asian plant pathologists who are interested in or related to scientific work, information or business in plant pathology. The conference mainly dedicates to review of the current status and advances of plant pathology and sharing of new achievements in Asian countries, although it does not cover all of the important scientific information. This conference presents topics such as host-pathogen interactions, fungal diseases, viruses and viral diseases, prokaryote diseases, nematode diseases, epidemiology and crop loss assessment, biological control, postharvest diseases and mycotoxin, integrated disease management, etc.

Abstracts shall be reviewed by a peer committee. Accepted abstracts shall be notified for either an oral presentation or a poster presentation during the conference.

Topics include, but may not be inclusive of:

  1. Host-Pathogen Interactions
  2. Fungal Diseases
  3. Viruses and Viral Diseases
  4. Prokaryote Diseases
  5. Nematode Diseases
  6. Epidemiology and Crop Loss Assessment
  7. Resistance of Plant and Resistance Breeding
  8. Biological Control
  9. Postharvest Diseases and Mycotoxin
  10. Integrated Pest Management

To submit an abstract, please  http://www.2ndacpp.org

Important Deadlines:
Abstract Submission: 15th November 2004

New books of interest to Plant Pathologists

Viruses and virus diseases of Poaceae (Gramineae)

Edited by H. Lapierre and P-A. Signoret

The Poaceae are one of the most important plant families in species number, worldwide distribution, ecosystems and as ingredients of human and animal food. It is not surprising that they support many parasites including more than 100 severely pathogenic virus species, of which new ones are being regularly described.

This book results from the contributions of 150 well-known specialists and presents for the first time an in-depth look at all the viruses (including the retrotransposons) infesting one plant family.

Taxonomic and agronomic descriptions of the Poaceae are presented, followed by data on molecular and biological characteristics of the viruses and descriptions to species level. Virus diseases of field grasses (barley, maize, rice, sorghum, sugarcane, triticale and wheats), forage, ornamental, aromatic, wild and lawn Gramineae are largely described and illustrated. A detailed index of viruses and taxonomic lists will help readers in their search for information.
