Arab specialists. Around 10,000 terms were discussed and agreed upon.
These terms will be published and distributed soon by the society.
During the Congress, four scientific symposia were
organized and dealt with "Knowledge Transfer to Farmers in Plant
Protection", "Safe Management of Pesticides", "Desert
Locust Control" and "Pest resistance to Pesticides".
Invited speakers from FAO, CIART, University of Western England-Bristol,

New publications of interest to plant pathologists:
BIOLOGICAL POLLUTION: AN EMERGING GLOBAL MENACE
Edited by Clay S. Griffith, Turner B. Sutton, and Paul D. Peterson
Biological Pollution: An Emerging Global Menace seeks to raise public
awareness of the mounting problem of biological pollution by presenting a
broad spectrum of concerns, in non-technical language, to
conservation-minded people. The first three chapters provide general
background on biological pollution, including insight into the enormity of
the problem and the direct and indirect costs to date. Then specific
examples of exotic weeds, diseases, nematodes, and insects and the damage
they cause are given. And the last chapters examine current defenses for
resisting biotic invasion and how these can be improved.
Contents
Preface; What Is the Problem?: Controlling Biological Pollution; An
Ecological Explosion in Slow Motion; Exotic Pests: past, present and
future; Weeds, Diseases, and Other Pests: Exotic Weeds: Expensive and Out
of Control; Plant Disease On The Move!; Plant-Parasitic Nematodes Which
Are Exotic Pests in Agriculture and Forestry; What Is to be Done?: Meeting
the Threat: Risk Assessment and Quarantine; Assessing Exotic Threats to
Forest Resources; Political and Economic Barriers to Scientifically-Based
Decisions; Fighting Back
